Bobbi Bonace Memorial Scholarship Fund

Otter Athletics encourages our community of alumni, supporters and friends to participate in CSUMB’s second annual Day of Giving by celebrating the legacy and impact of Bobbi Bonace, who passed away on Dec. 28, 2023, in Traverse City, Michigan surrounded by her loving family.

Bobbi was a pioneer for women’s leadership throughout her 40-plus years in higher education, exemplified in her tireless work as CSUMB’s first-ever athletic director. She helped found 10 of Cal State Monterey Bay’s current 14 intercollegiate athletics teams. She was also the chair of CSUMB's Human Performance and Wellness Education Department (now Kinesiology), where she was the guiding force through its inception and establishment of its first major. She served on numerous committees across campus and one of her favorite events was the “Have a Heart” auction and dinner for the benefit of CSUMB students.

The Bobbi Bonace Memorial Scholarship Fund will support scholarships for first generation CSUMB students and student-athletes. Our goal is to ultimately fund an endowment (required minimum of $25,000) from which scholarship awards will be coordinated by a select group of Otter Athletics alumni, former CSUMB faculty and staff who plan to pay it forward in the spirit of Bobbi’s success mentoring students based on her principles of academics, character, ethics and social justice.
